The heat of a St. George summer means, being in the water as much as possible. There are two beautiful lakes in St. George, and my parents have a boat. We are pretty blessed. Looking for fish waiting to be picked up. Look at that blue sky and those red rocks. Peace and beauty. Singing some tunes while we roll along.Grams pointing out who knows what to Max.
Uncle Adam giving surfing lessons.Me and my oldest two on a tube. You can tell how fast we are going by Josh’s relaxed position and the big smile on my face. Now for my secret….I am a big fat wuss. When we all pile in the boat and it starts speeding up, my heart rate starts to pick up, and I take deep breathes and say a little prayer that we will all survive the day. After we’ve been going awhile I relax and calm down. I try not to show my wussiness. I’m trying to raise my kids to be a little braver than their Mom. I require the help of the whole extended family in this endeavor. The boat usually inspires a conversation concerning which faction (from Divergent) each person would belong to. Me… not Dauntless for sure. Adam (and maybe Anna) Dauntless, Dad, Josh, and Amy would be Erudite, Justin would want to be Dauntless but thinks he couldn’t really pull it off. Jessie and Brady claim Amity so they can have access to the happy drugs. The rest… undecided. When the crazy tube rides begin I usually have to shut my eyes. Can’t even watch. There is absolutely none of this happening for me But I’m getting closer to mastering this skill. Surfing behind a boat is awesome. Bonus you only go 10 miles an hour so it’s really hard to get hurt. See Max’s nervous face. That may or may not be because I tried to surf with him and we both face planted. Then he asked for Uncle Adam. Max’s favorite thing to do at the lake is to jump off the boat and swim. Once he gets everyone in the water he swims up to each person one by one and says, “Hold still for just a minute” Then he puts his little hands on his/her shoulders and uses all his body weight to dunk them, on repeat.
I’m getting more courageous by the day this summer. Last week, my Dad, the selfless constant driver was back overseas. I drove the boat some of the time, and even gave a crazy tube ride. It was crazy right Adam? Opportunities for growth are at every turn.
