Justin turned 35 a couple of weeks ago. It was slightly traumatizing for him. The day after his birthday he was closer to 40 than 30 and he doesn’t like to talk about that. I think the fact that his kids completely adore him helped a little bit.
I wanted to celebrate with a get-away, but it felt like something I wanted more than what he wanted. I was right. He likes the whole family to be involved in celebrations. We all went out for Thai food instead – the kids were in heaven. He also ended up with an ice cream maker which we have all been reaping the benefits of.The kids were all very excited to show him what they’d made for him.Anna, in the spirit of giving, even wrapped up her homework for an extra special gift. Max cut up tiny pieces of green paper, and drew on them in green. Can anyone guess his favorite color?Anna also made him this card. “I love you. Let’s go camping this weekend. Happy birthday. Daddy.” With pictures of them surfing.
And Josh crumpled up about 5 tiny notes that said things like this ( and gave him a surfboard necklace). He wanted to crumple them up so his Dad would think they were trash and then be surprised.
Yep we are the luckiest.
