This spring break we got a little mini vacation with just our family. It is so wonderful to have family and friends around, but sometimes it is just as wonderful to have just our own little family… that way I can force my kids to play with each other and remind them that they are BFFs… sometimes they forget that. The first night we got in late and stopped at my sister’s house. She was still off galavanting across the world so we had the place to ourselves which meant… a bed for everyone… on vacation…. it was magical. Then we headed out to Santa Monica Beach. Our old stomping grounds. We used to come here about once a week when we lived in L.A. and haven’t been back to this particular beach in years. It only took 2 hours to get there in LA mid-morning week day traffic ;). We had to stop on the way in and get a picture ofMax with sunglasses on on the bleachers so that he wouldn’t feel left out.
Then I went a little picture happy…. I don’t usually take my camera down to the beach, so when I do… I totally live it up.
Got to love the dragon. Josh was trying to be funny. Max may have been truly concerned.
This is the point where Max’s desire to be big and carry his own boogie board died.
Love this chica. I have a picture in this exact same spot when she was 9 months old. Crazy madness.Anna’s treasures.
Max was initially reluctant to boogie board with me. Everyone loves Dad better. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the fact that I accidentally let go of him last time I helped him…. Justin convinced him that it would be fine, he just had to “teach me” how to do it. Max took this very seriously. He explained to me where his hands go, how to jump into the wave, and that I hold onto the board, not him… but “Don’t let go!” We were pros in no time.
Both big kids are getting better and better at surfing. Look at Justin in the background of those pictures… he’s so happy and proud.
Josh is good enough he can mock me and make funny faces when I’m trying to take pictures. That kid loves the water. He actually spent most of his time just swimming.
The beach is our happy place.
